But he sure can exaggerate stories of the one that was standing so close he could see the whites of its eyes. â€Å"So, why’d ya miss?† my uncle Harry asks Grampa. With his eyebrow cocked up and that half smile he answers in a slow southern drawl: â€Å"Well, just as I was taking my shot, your brother Ray stumbled out of the camp trailer yelling about the ice chest being open – seems all the ice melted.† Standing at my grampas elbow I am hot, humid and fanning myself with my hands. Heat is searing from the open-sided barbeque pit. Beer is sizzling as my grampa pours it over the meat; the spicy, sweet smelling steam rising to fill the air. That delicious, salivating aroma of beef and chicken quarters and beer marinade with lots of pepper crackling on the pit. The tangy smell wafting in the breeze, I can all but taste the outer edges of the fat frying in the flame. I look around and can see mouths watering in unison and anticipation. Sitting under ancient pecan trees rustling in the gentle wind, I watch a lonely leaf lazily drift down and rest at my feet. I hear everyone talking, laughing at once. Little kids running wild playing with the water hose. Adults yelling at the kids to play with the hose somewhere else. â€Å"You’re making mud!† And then there’s that one kid, that obnoxious kid that defies the authority of the adult. That kid’s crying in the corner, face hanging, crocodile tears in his eyes begging – every two minutes or so: â€Å"Can I come out now? Please! I promise I’ll be good!† His pleas are answered with a quiet and threatening â€Å"Do you want some Peach Tree Tea?!† Just hearing that phrase makes my bottom sore! I remember my Granny asking me that same question when I was acting up. I would answer with a foolish and unknowing â€Å"Yeah!†, and despondently drag my feet to the old peach tree to grudgingly pick a switch. Looks like this kid’s smarter than I was, he’s suddenly fascinated by the cobwebs in the top of the corner. Peaking in the kitchen, I see the women are readying various potato salads, macaroni salads, deviled eggs making iced tea. I catch my grampa’s wife, Sandy, pouring a little J.D. in her 44 oz mug of ice and coke. I hear them talking about the men, their love of their trucks, week-long hunting trips (you know the kind that don’t yield much in the way of deer), and cowboy hats. My Uncle Harry is sneaking around the kitchen trying to snatch a deviled egg. I announce to Sandy what he’s doing and, while she is distracted shooing him out, I steal a deviled egg or two for myself. Walking through the family room, MTV is blaring for the teenagers who are too full of angst and apathy to join in the festivities. Caring for nothing, my older cousins are bored. Sitting in their black clothes and greasy hair, I can nearly see the dirty grey/brown aura they give off. Thinking their indifference is cool, rolling their eyes and huffing their disdain for the cheerful goings on around them. They want to join, but I suspect that would ruin their image. Everywhere I look people are hugging. The oldest people are marveling at the youngest children, how they’ve grown, how cute they are, and when the parents aren’t in earshot, what â€Å"little brats† they are. â€Å"I wouldn’t let my child act that way in public.† â€Å"Someone needs to tell that child to go pick a switch!† Momo and Popo are giving out kisses and hugs to anyone that ventures by. My Momo sits with perfect rigid posture for a woman of 86. Her hair in the same bob she’s worn since the early nineteen thirties, one pinwheel curl in the front, her lips vibrant with Coty red lipstick. My poor Popo is being bossed around by Momo. He shuffles off to do her bidding with a sigh and a shake of his head. This is nothing new; it’s been this way as long as I can remember. In the back bedroom window rock music is blaring loud and distorted -something old – Lynard Skynnard or AC/DC. My uncle Ray, already half toasted, is nodding his head to the beat. Wearing an old trucker hat, a faded red tank top you know the kind with the big arm holes, an old pair of Wrangler shorts the kind that rest an inch ABOVE the knee and high top sneakers. His eyes are in slits. He smiles his good ‘ol boy smile with his redneck version Fu Man Chu mustache. Suddenly, my grampa declares the food to be done. â€Å"Soups on!† he hollers. In a flurry of movement the oldest people line up to get their plates, the mothers’ fix plates for youngest children and everyone settles to eat. As suddenly as it begun, it’s over. A quite calm is in the air. I can hear my lips smacking, everyone’s fingers being licked and the occasional grunting of approval. The music is turned down. The TV is off. Dusk is falling and with it all the excitement of the afternoon. Here we sit unified by family and food, hearts and stomachs full. Feeling content in mind, body, belly and soul. Looking around, I am overwhelmed by the generations that span nearly a hundred years. I’m awestruck with way that good food and good company can bring a whole family together. I am proud to be here, to be where I belong. Where love is the feeling, summer is the time and the family reunion is the place. The stability of these joints is provided by a series of ligaments and muscles. Motion of the arm results from the coordinated efforts of several muscles. With the irritation of shoulder motion, the scapula is first stabilized. The muscles of the rotator (musculotendinous) cuff then steady the humeral head in the glenoid cavity and cause it to descent. Elevation of the arm results from a combination of scapulothoracic and glenohumeral joint movements. One third of total shoulder abduction is provided by forward and lateral movement of the scapula. The remaining two thirds occurs at the glenohumeral joint through progressively increasing activity of the deltoid and supraspinatus muscles. Thus, even in the complete absence of glenohumeral motion, scapulothoracic movement can still abduct the arm approximately 600 to 700. The muscle of the rotator cuff (supraspinatus, teres minor, infraspinatus, subscapularis) are separated from the overlying "coracoacromial arch" by two bursae, the subdeltoid and the subcoracoid. These bursae frequently communicate and are affected by lesions of the musculotendinous cuff, acromioclavicular joint, and adjacent structures. They are frequently referred to as the subacromial bursa. Primary diseases of this bursa are rare, although secondary involvement is quite common. The Most Traumatic Night of My Life It happened about a month ago on a warm Tuesday night in august. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, but I was soon to find out differently. I was about to experience the most traumatic event of my life. I was at my boyfriend Will’s band practice in downtown with him and his three friends. We decided to go check out some abandoned rooms in the old, run down three-story apartment building in the search of cool stuff for their practice spot. We walked into one room that turned out to be an old after hours club that was no longer in use. There were some useful things, someone grabbed a couple chairs, someone else took a couple speakers that looked like they would still work, and I carried a full-length mirror. As we proceeded into the hallway, I led followed by the rest of the crew and we headed back to their room. When we were about ten feet from where I was going to put the mirror down, for some reason the mirror just broke in half in my hand. I tried saving the other half from smashing on the ground and a jagged piece sliced deep into my wrist. Everyone saw the mirror smash but didn’t realize what had happened to me. I could barely speak. People strategy focuses on Leadership, performance, nurturing talent and embedding behaviour essential to personal and business success. The health and Safety of our employees is also crucial and there is stretching annual improvement targets and supporting practices. Britvic policies and actions are designed to develop and support employees, promoting flexibility for all. There is an continue effort to build on the good and health and safety through extensive training and engagement of employees. Health and Safety at the sites: Britvic continues to build on the good health and safety record and actions that have helped to reduce 68% in accidents over last five years and an 81% reduction in working days lost through injury. Recently Huddersfield site of Britvic obtained certification for it Health and Safety Management to OHSAS 18000 and our Rugby site achieved a British Safety Council International Safety Award and RoSPA Gold Award for Safety Every site offers extensive training and focus on the identification of hazards and early correction to avoid potential accidents. An example of this or Rugby factory stopped production for a week to provide it 200 staff with a series of interactive training sessions. The actively week was designed procedure and new health and safety legislation. Throughout the week employees received training on fire extinguisher training and were trained in the principles of first line machine maintenance. Britvic has also launched online safety training, extended acro ss all sites and covers home working, driving and lone travel. Risk Management in Britvic: Risk management process: There is an risk management in place which is an ongoing process for identifying, evaluating and managing the significant risks faced by the group, which has operated throughout the financial year. This process involved a quarterly assessment of Functional risk which is then reviewed and signed off by the group Risk Committee. The groups risk management framework is designed to support this process and is the responsibility of the Group Risk Committee. The risk framework governs the management and control of both financial and non financial risks. The adoption if this policy enables a consistent approach to the management of risk at both regional and business unit level. Through the monitoring processes the board conducted review of the effectiveness of the system of internal control. Risks and Uncertainties that Britvic may face are the as below: Risks relating to the Group: A decline in certain key brands A termination or variation of its bottling and distribution arrangements with Pepsi development in the PepsiCo relationship. Innovating and developing the seed brands such as Drench, Gatorade, Raw, V Water and Lipton Iced Tea. Managing efficiency by improving margins and free cash flow. Expanding into Europe ( Britvic International and the first full year of Britvic Ireland Britvic is one of the leading soft drink manufacturers in UK and Ireland. Britvic has grown market share and revenue across all of the categories with a strong performance from both our core and seed brands, despite continued difficult trading conditions. Per capita consumption of purchased soft drinks will be in turn driven by: Cohorting: Younger generations drink more purchased soft drink and less tea, diary drink and tap water than previous generations. Population growth: over the next 20-25 years, the British population is expected to reach 70million from the current population of around 60million. Continuing trend: The per capita soft drink consumption continues to increase against 2% of diary drink, 4 % of hot drink and 8 % of alcoholic drink reduction. Innovation: it typically adds 1.0 2.0 % to Britvic GBs revenue line in a full year. ARP growt h: It is derived from promotional management, product / channel mix and headline price increases. Distribution opportunities: Britvic does not yet have near omnipresent distribution within the GB soft drink market and particularly under trades in attractive routes to market such as convenience, Impulse and Leisure / catering. In Ireland, the structure of the business is now appropriate for a resized soft drink market.
